To mark National Women's Enterprise Day, we wanted to shine a light on some of the wonderful women we've had the pleasure of working with here at Shanette Superior Space.
This year marked 20 years of National Women’s Enterprise Day, celebrating and encouraging female entrepreneurship across Ireland.
With this year’s theme of Making It Happen, it got us thinking about some of the fantastic businesses we’ve helped create space for over the years.
From hair salons and Pilates studios to childcare, sports therapy, handmade soaps and even a luxury cat hotel!
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been catching up with some of these women, receiving updated photographs and hearing a little more about what having their own businesses means to them.
It’s been lovely to see how they’ve made their spaces their own, so we thought we’d share a few of their stories.
Busy Little Bees, Castletown | Annie & Caroline
Two women, one dream and a passion for childcare.
That’s how Annie described the journey she and Caroline have taken to create Busy Little Bees in Castletown.
Together, they’ve created a welcoming space where they can follow their passion for childcare and watch little ones learn, grow and shine.
It’s a lovely example of two women working together to build something of their own, with plenty of support from their local community.
Dublin Soap Handmade | Ilona
We loved this little comment from Ilona, who runs Dublin Soap Handmade.
Having her own dedicated garden studio has made a real difference to how she runs her handmade soap business, and she’s delighted to have her kitchen back!
It’s a great example of how having a separate workspace can make everyday life that bit easier when you’re running a business from home.
Emer Kinnarney | Neuromuscular & Sports Therapist
Emer has created her own dedicated therapy studio, offering sports therapy, injury treatments and deep tissue therapy.
When we asked what having her own business meant to her, Emer spoke about the courage it takes to build something yourself and the pride that comes from achieving it through hard work and dedication.
Her words really captured the spirit of National Women’s Enterprise Day.
Ellivate Pilates Studio | Ellie
Ellie has created a beautiful Pilates studio, complete with reformer machines, warm interiors and some lovely finishing touches.
It’s fantastic to see how she’s transformed her Shanette building into a dedicated space for her business.
And what a lovely studio she’s created!
Hair by Jola, Clara | Jola
After 25 years working in hairdressing, Jola fulfilled her dream of opening her own salon closer to home.
Today, Hair by Jola in Clara is a beautiful salon that Jola has made entirely her own.
We’ve shared Jola’s story before, but it’s lovely to have another opportunity to celebrate what she’s achieved.
The Cats Whiskers | Carol
For Carol, opening her own luxury boarding cattery was a long-held dream inspired by her lifelong love of cats.
She wanted to create somewhere she’d be happy to leave her own pets, with their comfort and wellbeing at the heart of everything.
Today, The Cats Whiskers offers a lovely home away from home for its feline guests.
And judging by the photographs, they’re certainly making themselves comfortable!
Furry Paradise Holistic Dog Grooming, Mullingar | Gabriella
And finally, meet Gabriella from Furry Paradise Holistic Dog Grooming in Mullingar.
Gabriella has created a lovely little grooming studio, complete with washing and grooming facilities and even a photo backdrop for her freshly groomed customers.
It’s great to see how she’s made the space her own, right down to the little details.
And we couldn’t resist sharing a few photographs of her four-legged customers!
Here's to the Women Making It Happen!
Seven very different businesses, each with its own story and eight fantastic women behind them.
Some have turned years of experience into businesses of their own, while others have created dedicated spaces to help them grow or make working from home that bit easier.
We’re delighted to have played a small part in their journeys, but all the credit goes to the women who’ve worked so hard to make their businesses a reality.
A big well done to Annie, Caroline, Ilona, Emer, Ellie, Jola, Carol and Gabriella, and to all the women in business across Ireland.
We’ll be sharing more of their individual stories and photographs as part of our Real Spaces. Real Stories. series, so keep an eye on our social media pages.
